BTS: Top Three Things to Have in Your Office
Hey there and welcome!
Here’s a behind-the-scenes opinion of things you need in your office. It’s really just what I need, but I think others could benefit from it! I started my business back in 2018 and it’s amazing to see how far my home office has come.
The list here is definitely higher level, not everyday needs. Of course, there are basic necessities like a basic desk, computer, and chair to sit at, but this is my list of my top items above and beyond the basics.
Sit/Stand Desk. I’m a relatively petite person. Most desks don’t fit my short legs very well and I usually end up with horrible posture. I currently have the IKEA TROTTEN but definitely wish I did the BEKANT. It lowers enough to have great posture while sitting, but also makes me stand and stretch it out. Bonus note here: I have a desk treadmill to help me get my steps in.
Bonus Monitor. Am I even an accountant if I don’t need more than my laptop monitor? Haha! But in all seriousness, I think most business owners - and employees - have enough windows and tabs open to need a second monitor. I’m still using a hand-me-down from my partner that I got five years ago.
A comfy chair or couch. Yes, you need one for your desk. But also one that you can unplug and sit on to work at with your laptop on your lap. A change of pace is healthy and if you’re like me, sometimes working at a couch is refreshing. Having one in your dedicated office space helps reduce distractions from your living room area, but also brings a comfy vibe into your work space.
